For authors

Article Processing Charge (APC)

A flat $250 fee on acceptance — no submission fee, and waivers available so cost is never a barrier to publishing sound science.

Article Processing Charge

A flat Article Processing Charge (APC) of $250 applies only upon acceptance of an original research or review article in Research Micro (REMI). There is no fee for submitting a manuscript, which will be evaluated through our single-blind peer-review system.

All articles published in Research Micro are open access, permanently available online without restrictions or subscription fees.

The APC covers publication costs including IT and administrative support, online hosting, archiving, DOI registration, membership in international ethical publication organizations, journal development, formatting, and dissemination.

There is no APC for invited editorial commentaries.

Fee waiver policy

Authors who are unable to pay the APC may request a fee waiver or discount on a case-by-case basis. We offer a complete or partial fee waiver for individual authors or author groups affiliated with a university or institute in low-income or lower-middle-income economies as defined by the World Bank (please see World Bank Country and Lending Groups). If the author group includes researchers from universities or institutes in high-income economies, the publication fee will likely not be waived.

For more information, please contact our editorial office before submitting your manuscript. Requests for waivers for manuscripts that are already under peer review or have been typeset will not be granted.

The corresponding author must send the following information in the letter of request, together with any supporting documents:

Please note that if a project has been funded but no money has been reserved for publication, i.e. funds have been exhausted prior to the publication process, requests will be declined.

Editors and reviewers have no access to author payment information. Inability to pay will not influence their editorial decision.
